A Disney Fan's DREAM ATTRACTION! | Why Disney Resorts Need Museums
Since. It's very beginning the Walt Disney Company, strong, suit has always been its ability to craft a rewarding, experience whether. It be over the course of a 90-minute, film or in a fleeting glance down Main Street USA, Disney. Has consistently. Been able to create lasting memories of, joy and excitement through the art Flair and genius, of their presentation. Off the, screen or on a track, the Walt Disney Company, has nearly a century's, worth of sensational. Legend and adventure, to offer us all of which collectively, point directly towards the greatest, strength in Disney's wheelhouse. Storytelling. The. Walt Disney Company undoubtedly. Produces, and presents, some of the best and most truly, entertaining. Stories, while. Disney itself, likely, fancies, itself a master of fiction, and fantasy when, given the chance their, presentation. Of actual, history and information is often nothing, short of sublime. Disney. As an entity is such a wealth of possibility. No. Matter where you begin the journey there are countless, satisfying. Rabbit holes of history to dive into whether. It be with Walt Disney the movies, or the parks each Avenue, offers many entertaining, routes of varying, exploration. How. Cool, would, it be to see these particular, histories, showcased, through, the specific, renditions, of Disney, panache, to. Reiterate since, it's very beginning the, Walt Disney Company strong, suit has always been its, ability to craft a rewarding, experience. Which. I guess makes this, experience, pretty, perplexing. No. Offense to the NBA but I think, I might have a better more appropriate. Idea for this space for a lot of spaces even maybe, Disney. Should honor and celebrate, their storied, history with, permanent, focused, Disney, themed museums, in its resorts all. In favor say, aye. Museums. Can be some of the most interesting, places on the earth in, absence. Of experiencing. The remarkable, happenings, of yesteryear. Yourself, these, institutions. Thoughtfully, endeavor to represent, the story the. True story an important, story our. Shared. Story if you will. Its. History. History, we may, have only heard the intangible, words or only witnessed through the technological, barrier of a screen in museums. That's presented, to us right there before us to behold and inspect in person. Museums. Can put us in the same room as the Mona, Lisa the Declaration. Of Independence and, right in front of the mammoth beasts of the past. I've. Had a good slew of museum, experiences, in my life some, being completely. Breathtaking an, awe-inspiring some. Being boring, least ale passable. And. Weird. There. Are no shortage, of museums, in the world but I resigned that each and every one of them offers value, in their attempt to conserve, and respect, history. Whatever. Niche our cup of tea it is a. Museum. By definition, is an institution. That safeguards. And exhibits, artifacts, and other objects, of historical, artistic. Scientific, and, cultural, importance. And I, can't, think of a specific, entity in the entire world that has been more fruitful, in each and every one of those categories. Than, the Walt Disney Company, now. Disney, has occasionally. Showcased, and displayed exhibits, in various, institutions, around the globe I for. Instance once experienced. The treasures, of the Disney archives exhibit, at the Chicago, Museum of Science, and Industry and, it was freaking awesome. Currently. Guests can go to the Bowers Museum in, Santa Ana California to, see inside, the Walt Disney archives. But. These. Exhibits are often, only for a limited time and are possibly, being limited to the boundaries of the specific museum's guidelines, I want. To be able to hand is neither reins and just let them go wild showcasing. Their own history, past present, in their future in ways we've never seen, before perhaps. It's just me but somehow in a theme park that houses wonderfully, innovative. Attractions, like rise. Of the resistance, the runaway railway, and Muppet, vision 3d, one. Of the only things I'm sure to visit almost every time I'm at Disney's Hollywood Studios is, one. Man's dream if. You haven't been one man's dream is a small walkthrough exhibit that focuses on the life and the legacy of Walt, Disney. Inside. You'll find a handful, of historic. Artifacts, from Walt's childhood, up throughout the creation, of Disneyland. And Walt Disney World. Some. Of the most gigantic, theme park milestones, can be found within this makerspace, I really. Think it's the treasure of Hollywood studios, perhaps. I can boldly, make that assertion because, I am a self-proclaimed, Walt's, fanboy, but I don't, really think I'm, unique in that regard, the man has parks and what he stood for our beloved by so many as well.
As Evident that people who love Disney, surely appreciate the man and his history and while it's rarely overcrowded. Inside there's always a respectful, Museum, as come up going about within there's. Just something about being in that place among the original artifacts, that would fully shape, what we know in a door it's magical, in the most natural kind of way history, can, do that I, genuinely. Love, this exhibit and it's the stuff inside, of it that, makes the everything, else immediately outside of it that, much more meaningful but. Clearly, one man's dream is just a morsel of what I think Imagineering, is capable, of presenting, Disney. As we've established has. A knack for creating, memorable, impactful. Educational. Experiences, especially. In regards, to their own stories we. Can witness this firsthand within, these engrossing, exhibits, like one man's dream or the Disneyland, story in Disneyland, but this is on such a small, scale, we've. Seen it expanded, somewhat with larger, exhibits featured at d23 Expo, and perhaps most notably in the epic actualization. Of the Disney Family, History Museum, in San Francisco. But, again, all of these are small temporary, or significantly. Out of the way. So. I think Disney, should dedicate a special effort to build up permanent, museums in the resorts, as an, extra something to experience, during your stay and also as an added benefit, to Annual, Pass holders because at least for me I know I would be there all the time the. History of Disney is vast in a pure focused. Disney centric Museum produced, by Disney itself, could be one of the most informative, enjoyable. And authentic, experiences, in the world for a Disney buff like me. There. Are just so many possibilities. The. Life of Walt Disney is one aspect sure he's, an important man with a huge biography, and I certainly believe he, should be honored in this kind of capacity and, while, I would love and be first in line for a museum dedicated to his legacy the Walt Disney Company, as a whole, is right with a rich history a, history, with, a heavy impact on American, and even worldwide culture, considering. The catalogue, of Disney's films, and of course its many theme parks there, are tremendous areas. And eras, of Disney, that I'd love to see highlighted and magnified, through the lens of an Imagineering, produced Museum maybe. It's just me but this seems like a no-brainer and, I'm shocked that at least one museum hasn't already been established in, some capacity in the resort's. Mostly. Because I believe, that Disney, fans are hungry, for it I mean just look at 2018. When Disney collector, Richard craft put his huge assortment of Disneyland, items up for auction, he. Smartly, converted, a former Sports Authority warehouse. Into a show floor and publicly displayed, said items in a free exhibit he called that's.
From Disneyland and. People. Loved, it they were lighting up past the doors for every moment of its three week installment, a majority. Of whom I would assume did not have the pockets deep enough to walk away with anything that was on display they, they just wanted to see I think, with its proximity to Disneyland, I'm convinced, that if richer crafts had just decided to leave it be call it at Disneyland, Museum and charged 18 bucks a ticket or I don't know something like that I'm positive, people, would still to, get inside and, he'd see a much bigger return, on investment, than what the two-day auction really gave him but, who knows I I, don't do the numbers, I've. Seen a handful, of auctions, since then handing, off these priceless artifacts. Of entertainment, history to the highest bidder and while I understand, the mindset of wealthy, collectors, the fact that all these items were a one-time, house together and are now spread, apart separately, saddens, me. So. Thank the Lord that, the Disney Archives exists. According. To Disney itself, the Walt Disney Archives was, established, in 1970. To collect preserve, and make available for research the historical. Materials, relating, to Walt and the company, he founded I. Want. To go to there I've. Never been and I hope I one day have the privilege, to walk within those halls but to my understanding only, a handful, of things are truly on display for those who get to visit though. What is on display is pretty sweet in. My thinking and also keep in mind this is coming from someone who has little to zero idea, how any of this really works Disney, already, has a lot of these items in their catalog and perhaps right now the main, cost associated, and, funding, something like a Disney museum would just be the cost to actually house and showcase, the things that are already in their inventory again, this could be wrong I don't know how museum, management functions or costs, but if night at the Museum is to be believed the only real struggles, facing museums today is the threat that they may come to life at night but to my understanding this only occurs at the museum has the tablet of ahkmenrah and, it's keeping just to be safe we'll make sure that the Disney Museum does not display this. Though. My mind does race with the ideas of what kind of artifacts, and exhibits could, be on display and explored, I think. It's important that an on-site museum would showcase a general, coverage of the beginnings, and the histories, of the Disney parks all, of, the details, and the tidbits that went into getting Disneyland, started, or the secrecy, behind the original Walt Disney World land purchases, I'd love to see some of these documents on display kind of like a disney-esque, National, Archives Museum it, can feature each of the parks and their growth and evolution with, artifacts, and props from different eras in their history, there, could be exhibits, highlighting the overseas, parks, and cruise line and I've never done any of these so I'm curious to learn more and of course every ride has a unique history of trial and error and ultimate success and we see that presented for many here, we, enjoy finding Easter, eggs and additional details on attractions, while we're actually writing them but imagine, if we could have certain aspects, of these experiences, on display, where we could take them in right, before us for, as long as we'd like we, find so much more to appreciate, in the attractions, we already, cherish, for what about an area dedicated to, past and defunct attractions, these, displays, could feature former, ride vehicles, or props and especially, audio.
Animatronics, Whether. They remain functional, or none and I mean the latter most likely but still it'd be very welcome, can you imagine getting, to see the dream finder, again up close or. Revisiting. A Disney World mr. toad motorcar or, perhaps standing, in front of a loving recreation. Of this busy tableau, from world of motion or the original final, sequence of Carousel, of Progress ah I'm, dreaming this, could also be a way to honor the original intentions. Of attractions, and theme parks I mean, consider, the differences, between the parts of today and MGM, Studios our opening day Epcot as the. Future world we know right now becomes, a virtual location of the past its history, could be honored, and an Epcot exhibit filled with its pioneering, treasures, there. Could be a small walkthrough. Theater to showcase, vintage park footage former pre shows and theater experiences, could, this be how I finally experienced flight to the moon going. A little blue sky here what about a creative, implementation. Of the dish technology. From Imagineering, the. Dish stands for digital immersive. Showroom, and perhaps its application. In a museum like setting, what allow guests to more actively, experience, virtual recreations. Of rides from the past we, could really feel like run, Horizons, again or back in catastrophe Canyon. Or gently. Floating above Fantasyland, in the sky with pilots personally. I'd love to see a space dedicated to Walt's, original, Epcot, vision Walt. Disney poured his final, years into a city of the future and I'd be shocked to discover there, wasn't a wealth of models, or documents, or ideas left about from its years-long conception. Perhaps I'm wishfully thinking that these things might have been preserved but even, if it's just a sliver I'd love to see it I'd, even be in favor of removing a progress city model from the current people-mover tract restoring. It to its original size and relocating. It to a place where we could look at it for a long time taken all of its details, we'd. Observed more closely how Walt would have had his community, of tomorrow function. And perhaps, from, it we could be inspired by it and maybe. Even attempt, to apply his dreams of the future to our present, of, course I envision a section dedicated to the art and the history and the incredible, evolution, of the audio-animatronic. The, artful significance, of the Tiki Room through, President, Lincoln Big Al the timekeeper all the way to back and beyond I just get like a giddy thinking, about this Bert. What, about this an exhibit, that showcases walk, around character, and cast member costumes, the. Changing evolution, of characters, in the parks throughout the years has been extensive. Think. Of seeing dozens of these displayed, in a style, similar to that of the Edna mode experience, these. Displays could also include rare characters, we'd never really see walking around the parks anymore each. Display, would be accompanied, with a character, profile, and their signature, as each would have signed many a guest autograph book it'd, be a way to appreciate, our favorite Disney characters and their presence within the parks what. About the history, of Disney merchandise, I imagine a display, of thousands, of Disney pins and press pennies and Mickey Mouse ears but how cool would it be and I could go on I, could. But. While. The parks play heavily in my own heart the Walt Disney Company is more than just theme parks they, have an entire entertainment, history, that includes thousands, of films stage shows and television programs, imagine. A Disney museum, full of movie, props and historic, cinematic, items we'd. Be able to remember their scenes and delight in the memories we made while watching them, maybe. There'd be revolving, exhibits. Highlighting memorabilia. From different films as they celebrate, milestone, anniversaries, and, you want to talk art museums places. Like MoMA or the Louvre seem less interesting, to me when you think of all the Disney artists who brought some of the most stunning art to the table, I'd. Love, to peruse an art hall full of herb Ryman renderings, or Peter Allen Shaw matte paintings. Or. What about Robert Stevenson. Do you know everything, about, the nine old man York can Anderson, or Mary Blair and up I works these, are quiet but huge, figures, in Disney history we'll.
Discover More about them all at focused exhibits, dedicated, to each of them and, considering that Disney means much more than just Disney, now a Disney, Museum could, be Marvel, Star, Wars of the Muppets, imagine. Tissie fight profiles, on Stan Lee George, Lucas, and Jim Henson and the importance, of their cultural contributions. I know, I'm going off the rails but really I'm just trying to stress the near endless possibilities. Of what could be featured and what could be learned from. A Disney museum, but. Why, stop there while it is a focus Museum would surely be the most priority thing for me why should we be confined, to them at. One time Epcot surely, scratched the itch for a science, museum with attractions, like communica and image works. Similarly. Hollywood, studios in the back lot once displayed a wealth of film props and memorabilia in a way becoming, its own movie, museum I. Just. Think that taking museum, presentation. And fusing it with the art of Imagineering. Is a winning formula, and it's, one that Disney in theory has had. Successfully. Imagine. The minds of Disney tackling, other fruitful, subjects, I'd, love to see Disney showcase'. American, history or the cinema, in general or science, or space travel I don't know it could be anything it. Could be a reclaiming, of sorts of the edutainment aspect. That we're really starting to lose in the parks, they've. Done it on a small scale so why not go big Disney, is just excellent at storytelling, and whatever kind of story they'd want to tell is something, that I'd be eager to get in line for and I. Don't. Think it's just me. While. I believe if Disney made a museum, I would be there on a weekly basis I really, believe the concept, of one is much, more appealing to everyone, than an expensive Cirque, du Soleil show or, a Wide World of Sports or, an M&M, store would be. Honestly. I'd be 100%. All for Disney springs turning, into its own national model, of sorts I mean it's already, a mall but it's, the tacky kind even. Though it is done beautifully a, Disney. Museum would be heaven, for a local Disney fan but I think there'd be plenty of allure for even a casual, vacationing, Disney fan I mean, I assume it's safe to claim that most if not all people visiting, Disney World like. Disney I think. Having the history of the parks and the company, and whatever else on display would be the perfect accent, to a Disney vacation at. Least way more than an NBA experience, would be, full. Disclosure I haven't, been to the NBA experience yet but I'm not convinced, that I'm missing out it. Seems, fine. I guess if you're into that kind of thing and I'm not really and for the price tag I'm fairly reluctant. To check it out. Having. It replaced the interactive, and for the most part popular. Disney quest another, experience and ever did seem to be pretty bold that they get go and this ode to basketball, replacement, appears to be quite frankly hurting, in its inaugural year I should. Probably give the NBA experience, the benefit, of the doubt but all I can see it as is just prime and mostly, squandered, real estate. I say. Gut the building again it shouldn't be as hard to do this time around and transform, the space into something that is truly, Disney. Something. That is truly, a celebration of, the Disney experience something. That Disney fans would truly clamor, for and truly, let, it be the first of, many a Disney, World and, Disneyland and, beyond, enclosing. Disney is the, very best at presentation. And storytelling, like I can't, believe it I mean that's her job of course but if you boil down Disney, to its fundamental, principles, it's basically just expert, storytelling, and presentation, it's, the simplest, way to describe a Disney experience and I want to see that experience, reflected, in, a museum. Again. I know nothing, about the practice of museum curation, but if the right people are watching I do believe, curating. Said Disney Museum would be in my particular, real house so let. Me know, these. Of course are just a few perhaps obvious examples. That come to mind when I think about a fully fledged Disney, produced museum experience, would be like but what do you guys think would, you be eager to visit a Disney museum, what. Kind of civets would you want to see on display in a permanent, Disney Museum drop. Your thoughts in the comments below and until next time we'll, see you in. The happy place bye.
