[Music] [Applause] hello guys in today's video we introduce you to one of the most iconic buildings in the city of dubai with 250 columns of 1.5 meters in diameter that go 45 meters under the sea rises the burj al-araf hotel the most distinctive seven star hotel in the world very recognized worldwide and a place where many visitors or tourists want to know the building is built on sand which is unusual as most tall buildings are based on rock designed by architect tom wright who proposed an iconographic synthetic structural form that would identify the city of dubai you may think that the burj al-arab looks like a sailboat but its design however is based on the sail of a dao which is a traditional arab fishing boat used for fishing and pearl fishing for the architect it was a great challenge to carry out the project by the instruction of the client the crown prince of dubai it was a design not only a hotel but also a building that would represent a dramatic statement with images that immediately evoke images of the city the burj al adam hotel forever changed the skyline of dubai when the hotel which rises to more than 300 meters opened in december 1999 after five years of construction [Music] let me show you to the entrance of the hotel passing through a bridge that connects to the island you can see the impressive building its detailed shape is remarkable [Music] it took three years to reclaim the land from the sea and less than three years to construct the building the island rises seven and a half meters above the waves and is also protected by concrete honeycomb shaped solid blocks specially designed to reduce the impact of waves no one in the gulf had ever used these blocks before as waves hit the block the water pass inside and turn around in itself and hence force is dissipated and the bottle to secure the island is worn the building is a hybrid v-shaped structure built in concrete and mixed with structural steel a v-shaped steel frame wraps around the reinforced concrete tower that inhabits hotel rooms and lobbies the two wings enclose a space in the center to form the largest atrium of the world with about 180 meters high [Music] [Applause] [Music] the interior of the burj al-arab features an atrium with a central fountain and a cascading waterfall with columns embellished with 24 carat gold leaf [Applause] [Applause] a water fountain in the desert is a symbol of opulence but this is not just another fountain but a masterpiece of series of digitally controlled million pound masterpieces [Music] it takes some surprising engineering to create the flare the water features here are an engineering fit in their own right mesmerizing sometimes the water doesn't even look like water that's because it's not behaving like
