Hello sir hey how's it going russ. What's up thanks a lot for jumping in the coal man uh i know it's kind of early, uh in the u.s, at the moment. You are in california. Are you new york that's good good uh so how are things there with the carpet and everything. Uh. You know, new york is uh, being. Being run into the ground. By, inept leader, leadership. And uh the city is just. It's it's never been in. A worse position. Um. Over four hundred thousand new yorkers have left. That's. The tax base, you know the people that can afford it left. You know they went out to the hamptons, they went to pennsylvania. They go to new jersey, they go, westchester. Along suffolk county anywhere that they can go. Buy a house or something. You know the real estate is just flying, you know. And so new york is like, 18, 000. Empty apartments, in new york that's crazy. Yeah 160. 160. Major corporations, of, uh you know, have left. The crime rate has, skyrocketed. Um. You know it's it's it's at a point where. I don't know whether new york is ever going to come back i don't know it should come i hope so. I mean there's no theater district. You know, there's no the hotels, are being destroyed. Um. You know when when a family there's no tourist industry in new york now, you know, when uh when families used to go, like to take a week in new york city. You know maybe before thanksgiving. Or something that, rent a hotel. Go see a couple of plays. Go to restaurants. Twice a day plus, you know. All that is done. That is done. You know go to radio, city music hall go to the statue of liberty go to the empire, state building go to the, go up to harlem go eat at silvia's, you know, it's uh. It's you know we'll go, go to astoria, go see the film industry over there you know it's it's it's. It's it's a disaster. It really is, yeah, and, this is so sad here i mean uh, obviously it happens all over the world, you know exactly the same thing right seven billion people kind of in the same boat with the covered stuff, but uh for me personally, new york is in my heart i love new york i used to go there you know. Every every month or so, um you know either for work or just for vacation with my family, so, yeah it sucks. You know, i, born and bred here i was born in the bronx you know and. This is my city, but. It's. I don't know, i don't know what's going to happen. Absolutely, that's this is crazy, um, let's just hope that you know. The [ __ ] will get back to normal. Soon, because uh yeah. Oh, i really hope so because uh. All, all my brothers and sisters in this music business, including. The writers. The. The journalists. The the crews. The pa crews, the the the. Venues. The merchandisers. You know there's no business, there's no no one's working, yeah you know, but the bills are. The bills are still coming so, yeah, right. I don't know i don't know when it's going to come back but, we're still continuing, to make music as you know so we can. Move on our. Our our interview, that is true absolutely, so the yeah the big news about that dealer that you guys are about to, release a new uh, studio album concrete, lanterns, on november, 13th. Via steel cartel, records, congrats, on finishing this one up during the pandemic. And while the whole world is falling apart. I kind of feel that you know, the world right now needs, good heavy metal music, this this is great news when the banks, are releasing. During these hard times could could you talk well i've got, i, i got a whole lot of good news, when it comes to music. And the creation, of music, so, um. You want me to tell you yeah what's going on absolutely, please do i was just going to ask. So. So, the, you know death dealer, is my, second band is my other metal band other than roster boss bands so we just put on rtb, put out, our. My fourth record in march 7th yeah okay.
And Then we have then everything got canceled. Euro, tour, summer tour next to it next year it's just like, okay, so. Death dealer. Uh me stu marshall, on guitar. Sean pack lead vocals. Incomparable. Short, pack. We added a new bass player michael pond. From my band and from symphony x, and my drummer steve. Well the original, death dealer drummer, and then, i stole, him, and then that deal. He's back in the death dealer so it's it's the, it's, it's a great thing it's like three fifths of my band, in death dealer. And. Um. So. We figured, uh well let's let's finish this third one. And uh. It's done it's ready to go. You know and, you can hear it you can see the artwork is fantastic. Um. But besides. That. Sean. Sean peck and stu marshall have been writing. All these months. All these months and they've been churning, out songs. I'm working on the fourth death deal around record now really. Yeah the third one is entirely yeah man. Not only am i working on the fourth one but the fifth one is almost done. This is good news. Right okay. So i mean uh sean and i'm not the major i'm the main songwriter. And, uh, in death dealer. Although i contribute, i mean you know. Greatly, but uh i would say that sean and stu have, putting out music that it's just, incredible, to hear. And uplifting. And so i'm working on like. Tonight i'm going to. Do more solos, on on, death dealer 4. this is me and. Yeah, so the plan i think the plan is uh, to, put out, concord, lands november, 13th. And then tour on, the fourth record. Next year when it comes out you know because we'll have. We'll be touring on two records, yeah, when hopefully, we can tour but maybe three right i mean we don't even know i mean no one knows when it's been, when the whole place is open up, so uh and i'll be touring on uh, the roster boss man born of fire, because we haven't toured on that record yet and it's that's incredible. And uh. So that's uh the heavy metal news this is amazing. These are great news man thanks, uh yeah and talking about the you know the creative process behind conquered, lands, uh, for superband, because i mean that dealer is basically a superband, right i mean you guys. Everyone, at least uh, is associated, with at least one more band, uh other than that, right uh, so how does it usually, you know work i mean uh, how do you divide responsibilities. And uh who's in charge of what and what's the process like. Well. Um, stu. Stu would come up with riffs and and songs song, song structures. And then. Sean will start to. Uh. Sing. Sing, you know like uh scat over it and, and, come up with some ideas. Maybe come up with a with a, song title, or, a. Visual you know something something in his in very fertile, imagination. Which is incredible. And um. The storm, starts, to take take, place and then they send it to me. And, i put my two cents to it and i go you know well let's try this and then we can maybe we'll add a horse here or we can you know do a, drop a, drum, fill or you know. A stop or you know something that that just keeps triggering. The creation, of songs. And and heavy metal so i mean, it's, the same thing and also to me in every idiom. And every genre of music you know it's just it starts out with a basic idea. And um. That we build on them and um. So. It's it's funny that like, uh, such an amazing guitar player stu is, and so he sends me this stuff and i do i do i will do a solos. I will do some stuff, and i send it back to him and he goes oh my oh god i got to do mine over again, and then. And he does it over again, then i say ah man i'm gonna do, you know so we get it to the point where. We think that that that it's. Uh. Untouchable. Yeah, okay that's good it's, good to hear, and you know. I gotta ask this right so it's been five years, uh since the release of hallowed ground, right. And then now you just say that you are going to release, two or three records even in a row, so why did it take you so long to come up with the conquered lens. Well, sean, sean was doing um. A, cage and three tremors, mm-hmm. Uh. I was um. You know busy with, touring, all over with rtb.
Was The boss band, um. Stu had night legion. You know. It was a matter of fact steve's band opened for rtb, when we went to australia, so. And um. So we we were pretty busy, and then, we all figured, then this, the song started taking place and then, the. The the, enthusiasm. Comes from songs. It's always come from songs with us and me. I mean, if we if you have great songs you have something. You know, because that's that's what. That's the basis of music, i mean songs. To me it's all songs i don't care how great a guitar player you are or a bass player, or drummer, or how fast you can. Get those double bass drum beats or whatever you're you know that's that's, the. Theoretical. To me, i think it's all, songs and choruses, and, stuff that you can sing along to and you can and memor, and you put to memory and you know, yeah. Absolutely. And musically, speak and, obviously i was able to listen to the record a bit earlier, yeah you know than everyone else but uh it is a classic, heavy metal album, right i mean at least for me, uh yet with a very modern, sound. But where did you look for an inspiration. In 2020. You know compared to what you have done, you know before any new bands you can point out. No i don't think i don't think we look to other bands, to other music i just think that we look to. To, to, improve, on what we've been doing, you know. Uh you know the first two records. War master, and hologram, were amazing, and and. Uh. You know. Just sometimes you just don't follow them up that quickly, and uh, so. We when we started three. We knew that we'd have to, this record would have to have some impact because. You know you can't you can't go. You can't go like this and then, yeah. Even if you tail off you, you're going down. You know even if you even if you're steady, you know on the median line even, you know you, you're not going up so if you're not going up you're going down yeah but in our in our in our opinion, yeah. Oh uh, you know we do have some amazingly. Great. Stand down tracks we have the most depressing, song ever written. 22, gone it's the most depressing, song ever written. Definitely you gotta get it and uh, we're going to release, um. Three tracks. To them to the uh. The media, yeah, the, uh the fake. Fake ass, digital media. And. And then. Any if you want the rest you got to buy it absolutely you know. That is. Those days yeah. Yeah fans have to buy it and that's the only way to support the musicians. Us, and the crews and everything just. Reach into your pocket and buy buy cds, buy t-shirts. And we have an amazing, array. An amazing, array of. Of, merchandise. For the erstwhile. Metal fan. I mean. Nice. Yeah. That artwork, though by the way is absolutely, amazing, could you talk a bit about who was the, you know whose idea was it and uh, who was the, artist. Oh what's this you know what what's his name oh [ __ ]. He got me in the brain freeze what's his face. Well, well, whoever, did it. He's amazing. He's amazing, and it's just not that my brain is firing. On all cylinders, yet wait a minute i need more coffee hold on no worries. It's like a dunkin ad. That's the best coffee for me the starbucks, is to me starbucks, is battery acid. So do you actually. Have a favorite, track, uh from this new album, or it's like choosing a favorite kid impossible, question. I would say. My favorite track from this record, is. Running with the wolves. Which is going to be which is going to be the next video, yeah, okay. And uh it's done, um. Great. Great, um. It's gonna be. The the video is very, very good. Yeah actually you know talking about my personal. Favorite track from the album, i would have to, pick that one, as well you know i mean it's a great track it's classic heavy metal, again it could have been released in the 80s but it would be very modern sound. Exactly what i you know personally, like, and uh, something that i enjoyed a lot, um, and another question though uh is, you guys have been waiting, five years you know to release an album and then you decided, to, you know drop it, uh for your fans during the pandemic. Uh why is that so why didn't you wait until 2021. Already. For the next record, i mean for this one yeah i mean it's very hard because you cannot do the promo. You know release, tour, routine, and yeah you know we felt that this record is done and it you know it doesn't, the records don't get any better in the can, yeah. You know we wanted the world to hear it you know and we wanted everyone to see our, are that were working that we're, that we're actually, uh. Moving forward, and as i said, because if you if you're not moving forward and going up you're going down, yeah. In our business, and um. Uh. That's what we wanted to show i mean um. We know we're not gonna do we know we can't tour. No one can. No one can and which is uh. You know. Uh. It's it's very frustrating.
But. Do we take out our frustration. On. Creating your music. And keep it moving because you have the time. You know it's usually if you don't have the time, you know like, a lot of a lot of people say i don't have the time to do new music i don't have the time. We're touring we're always traveling we're doing this we're doing that, well, there's no excuse right now, it's true. There's no excuse for not making new music now, are you guys planning on actually, doing. Anything. That you know some other bands do these days you know like online, show, or. Drive in those shows or something like that. In support of this you know i don't think we're a driving, show we can, we have to have shows that will, pay us enough money to, to to get, together. I mean because from all over the world from schools from sydney. Um. Mike and i from the east coast, uh steve and sean are from the west coast. So after it makes sense. To do it like i can conceivably, say maybe an online, thing. Uh. You know so i mean i just did an online thing with rtb, we did vacant online, and we did uh. Um. Something for uh crew nation. Live nation for the cruise with funny. They did a song, so i mean, you know that is definitely. Happening, um. So. I mean yeah. I think that you know for the for the time being i guess online, shows is something that we kind of have to deal with but at the same time, i personally. You know think that, you know heavy metal, and rock and roll is about, you know it's about live show experience, it's about that sweat it's about that energy that you get on the, on the show, and yeah i cannot, really say that i love the band or i'm a huge fan of the band unless, i see them live, and uh i just really. And man you got to see us live up close and personal, absolutely that's. I mean the closer you get it get to us, the close the more we we tear your head off, and uh. The real music oh by the way or the artist, is, dusan. So he's a very, very, renowned, artist and uh, sorry i didn't know that, i wasn't. But um, i had a mental. Mental breakdown. No worries man, um, but uh i will definitely look him up i mean the artwork, is absolutely, stunning, and i think this again, very classic heavy metal artwork, yet at the same time. Very kind of. Modern, in a way as well, um, yeah. And it appears, on all sorts of different, uh. Packages. You know the that you can buy you can purchase, and. Uh. Bill cartel will send you, nice um. Really. Take care of you right away, and uh. We. We take care of our, customers, and our fans and. Um. Total satisfaction, will be had by our merchandising. Perfect, yeah absolutely. That's about the vinyl, the vinyl looks amazing, um. Can't wait to play it over there. If you can see that vinyl record back then. I'm uh i'm a very much a vinyl nerd i have a huge reaction. Yeah it's great, that's great and um. Uh, so what can we say i mean uh the the record is amazing, the band. The band is, is totally energized, the band is. Bands are ready to go and as i'm sure all the bands are ready to go absolutely, yeah, on the, and uh we're just waiting for the for the word and uh. Uh. You know each day that goes by i mean we get more. You know depressing, news but i think that uh. The the. The vaccine. For this. Is right around the corner actually, and it's. And um, you know because because our president, here we did something called uh. Operation, warp speed. He gave billions, of dollars to, like five six companies. This that's money well spent just give it just go as fast as you can. Safely. You know, and just just get it you know get it going i think he gave money to even a uk company too, and they i think they are the the closest actually, yeah.
Yes And then and then then the the treatments, and and the uh. Uh. You know, are much better now that that that they were in march, you know. Though. Uh. You know the death rates are plummeted, on this uh. You know you can turn you and and the more you test the more people have it of course, of course yeah absolutely, unfortunately, the, best thing the united states is testing like 170. Million people already yeah, so. But uh. It's uh. You know, when we can get back to being in a crowd together. And drinking beer together, and having a good old. You know good old rock and all time, yeah. That's that's what we need to do that's what we want to do absolutely because this is what rock and metal is all about, it's about getting together, it's about that energy that is produced, and uh, online, shows are okay but again, just for the time being hopefully, yeah. Yeah we have to do it um. But uh, you know we all want to be in a small pack club. Sweaty pack clubs that's what we you know, i love it i love it and i listen to the shows, yeah i mean i have big shows, i mean walking out there. Uh. Big huge shows i mean i've done so many of my life but i i love, on tour, man you know medium size even. Sometimes you have to play a small place on an off night and you just go do it you know and it's just uh, it's, you know meeting everybody. And and shaking everybody's, hand and hugging everybody, good night and. Everybody's, happy and uh. You know we'll see you next year and. It's just a great thing that just the heavy metal and rock and roll brings brings, people together. Absolutely. It doesn't matter it doesn't matter what, what color you are it doesn't matter what religion you are it doesn't matter. Um. Your sexual, orientation. That's if you can't even say that anymore. Um that's true. It's true it's true, but yeah we don't care i mean you know we're we're just here to play for people, we're here to bring happiness, and and. And the power to people, and, and, and inspire, people that's what we're about, perfect so let's just pray that you and all the other bands are actually going to be able to hit the road.
Early Next year and uh i'll catch you somewhere in europe or who knows, yes, so i'm conscious of your time and so just couple of more questions if you don't mind uh. Um. One more i mean you've been in, again heavy metal for for quite a long time now right i mean uh for decades, uh, how does working, on an album in 2020. Actually, differ from, you know what you've been doing back then when you just started. The process. Well when i started, in my career was in 1975. With the dictators. Who are recording now as well, yeah by the way. And um. You had to be in the. Studio. You had to be in the studio. We were in, we were in we were in a rehearsal, room. And then we would go to a studio, and we would, do takes. On two inch tape. You know. And then everybody, would be recording, and then. You know you'd be 16, track or you know when i started with 16 track and uh. You know, which was good, and um, so you have to you have to be in a studio, and then now you don't have to be in a studio. Everything is online. Now everybody has their own studio, yeah. Everybody, has a pro tools or whatever the garage band whatever they record on and. So, uh. We could we could, record, and swap, and centra, and send tracks, instantaneously. Send wave tracks, sent very good. So that whole that whole process, is, the internet has taken out. Another business. And it's pretty much killed the studio business. But uh it's created, the. Pathway, through. For international, bands to make records together, yeah and especially, now no one's traveling, anywhere. You just can't get on a plane and go somewhere. And uh. So, that's how we make our records now, uh but again this is a good thing because then you know the fans worldwide, are able to you know get more music, even during these hard times during the panama, and stuff. Yeah, all right man um. So this is something that we usually do on the show before or before the end. If you can just look back, for. You know for the past. 40, 45, years of your career, right. If there is one show, that kind of. Stuck in your head or just one crazy, ass story from touring life from again, getting reminiscents, and uh remembering, when you could actually go on tour and hit the road. Or anything that you can legally share at least, that would be. One great one the one two or the one show that really. Um. That i i remember was when when rtb, played bakken. A couple of years ago, yeah and i, and i and i was made uh, i received, ambassador, of heavy metal from the, from the heavy metal hall of fame yeah. I was given the more i was i was presented, with the plaque, on on stage. And um like in front of like seventy thousand whatever the 80th at night whatever it was that day, and it was one of the most, uh. Moving, days of my life and i thanked uh, the whole and i and i thank the, fans. You know and i thank the everybody, for putting putting me in the first class. Yeah. Of the metal hall of fame. And uh so it's gotten bigger and bigger now, and um, so that that that show, really stuck out that's, stuck out to me and you know it was kind of a culmination, of of so many hardy, of years of hard work and. Uh but um. You know there's no show i don't take. Seriously. It could be my last show, you never know. Um so i take it very seriously, and uh. You know. Sometimes people give me lists of sort of shows that we've done, and i look over, and. This is great, yeah again, uh just thinking about this i, really do hope that you will be able to hit the road once again. Very soon and i personally will be able to get you live, and uh. You know talk over a beer, thanks a lot for your time ross any lust message for the fans anything you want to share with them.
Keep The faith guys, keep keep helping the bands keep us keep helping us out, send sensing. Send the bands your money, it's well spent, yes, it it really it helps. So there's a lot of musicians that aren't working. Uh, you know. And um, it really helps us, perfect, thanks a lot raj for your time just once again death dealer's, third studio, album conquered lance will be out on november, 13th, via, steel cartel, records, make sure you check it out man thanks ross amazing. Yeah amazing thank you keep rocking man. Thanks. You.
