One Last Winter Camping Trip Before Spring Arrives | One Tigris Wild Haven Lightweight Hot Tent

Show Video

welcome back to another episode of the michigan  magnet man i am back here in kingston michigan   today and i'm doing some more hot tent camping  out here now you guys have seen in the past   i've gone out and i've done some camping  whether it was in my quincy or in my hot tent   and then there's always a really good time getting  out here and spending some time out in nature   now you guys did vote on what i should be cooking  tonight on my last live from my quincy so i'm   gonna follow through with that go ahead and stick  around to the end and see what i serve up tonight   from my hot tub so when i'm looking for a spot to  camp out here i am looking for a spot that doesn't   have a lot of dead trees up above it i thought  this spot over here was going to be a decent spot   but this tree is dead so i'm worried that those  will fall down so i'm gonna go look over here a   little more i've got this open spot over here  with no dead trees up above it really no big   branches to fall on me i think this is gonna  be the spot let's go ahead and get my gear out so i recently made another upgrade guys i've  got this here sled now and it's going to help   me just maneuver all of my gear into the woods  a lot easier i've been looking at these before   but they're currently on sale because winter is  almost over so if you are looking for a sled to   take out and pull your gear camping it's the same  exact sled that you would use to go ice fishing   you can get that at pretty much any hardware  store walmart pretty much anywhere like that   you can also get them on amazon i paid about  25 for mine so it wasn't too expensive and   it's going to serve its purpose well i'm  really looking forward to using it tonight   it'll also make it a lot easier to pull in  firewood when i cut firewood down today so now that i've got all my gear out here and  i've found a nice spot to camp i'm gonna go   ahead and just compact down some of this snow all  through here where i'm gonna be setting up my tent it doesn't have to be perfect you just want to  get enough snow out of there where you're not   dealing with inches of it so now that i've got a  nice clean flat down spot let's get the tent out   tenth that i'm going to be using today is the  one tigress wild haven lightweight camping tent   now i purchased this on amazon for about 120  dollars and it comes with your standard pole   so this tent is a tp style tent which  means that you use a pole like this   to stick in the ground and the tp part goes down  around that so now that we've got our pole out   let's go ahead and get the actual tent out it  is a little windy today so now that we kind of   know where we want the middle at i am going to be  using my schrade sca x2 to hammer this in the back   part here has a little hammer part so now i'm  just going to take the tent and drape it over now this tent does come with stakes but  i did go ahead and purchase some extra   just to have some extra strength  they are a little bit bigger the next step is to be using these guidelines  to pull up on the side of the tent it's gonna   help it with stability today during the wind  it is quite windy out it's also gonna help me   get some more room on the inside it's not  a very roomy tent let's just wrap around   and pull tight now you just take these little  guidelines out and i'm gonna take this about here   trust me if it is a windy day you are  not going to want to forget this step   now when you do get these guidelines  and sometimes you're going to have to   readjust the other corners once you have  the other corners and it's kind of just   your basis to see where you're going to need  everything i'm gonna pull this nice and tight   this ground is still very very frozen it has been  a little bit warmer the past couple days it's   about 35 degrees outside right now which is nice  compared to the like seven degrees that it's been   recently all right let's go ahead and get another  one of these on all right so now we have our tent   set up and i've got it open here i decided to  sleep on the opposite side that i normally do   by opening up this side of the tent opposed to the  other side now there are two separate entrances to   this tent um but i decided to do this one this  time so let's go ahead and i'm gonna go ahead   and get my tarp set up in the bottom here i've  got a thermal tarp that keeps everything really   warm up in here and it keeps me warm from the  snow it puts a layer between me and the snow   so let's go and get that set up so this tarp has  the silver part here and this is going to reflect   the heat now i've used this a couple times out  here and it really made a difference at night   from protecting me from the ground it kept me so  much warmer in my core which kept me very warm   so what i did last time to keep this back part  up off the side to keep the draft up at me   i hooked it into where the door opens up  at and it works quite well so let's go   ahead and hook this into here and  that'll do the trick on that side now that we've got the tarp down let's go ahead  and go get the cot and get the cot laid down here   now i did do something a little bit different  to the bottom of my cot this time i took some   duct tape and on the poles here on the  bottom i put some duct tape to keep it   from sliding around so much on this tarp i'm  really hoping it works if this doesn't work   i'm gonna have to find something a little bit  more sticky to keep me grip down on the bottom   this blanket put down on top of my cot to  create a little bit more of another layer   next i will be getting out my sleeping bag this  is a zero degree sleeping bag made by a company   called real yellow the link to all of this gear  will be down below in the descriptions guys   so go ahead and check this gear out  um let's go ahead and get this out   now i've used this a couple times and it keeps  you so warm um the coldest temperatures that   i've cancelled with it was negative seven in my  quincy so and they kept me toasty the whole time i   was actually kind of surprised but if you get good  gear you can trust it what side do i want my head   fire is gonna be on that side this time i'm gonna  put my head this way now deciding to where i'm   gonna put my head is not as big of a deal in this  tent opposed to my quincy was because there's   multiple escape routes the whole side under here  i can get underneath and here's another door right   here behind me if i were to have to escape  out the back so i slept with my head towards   the exit but with this like i said there's so  many spots i can exit the tent it won't be an   issue all right now that we've got our bed all  set up let's go ahead and get the stove in here this stove is really easy to set up  you just got to pull the legs out and just like that we got that part set  up let's go ahead and get the smoke stack   the way that these work they just slip into  each other like this and they stack up easy   this part goes into the back of the stove let's  go and put this in oh i will be doing something   differently now i burned a hole in the side of my  tent last time because the embers were going up   so now i went and bought this sparker history  to put it out at the top of this and it's going   to make it so no like fire flames can get out  just smoke and i bought this little tube with it   that can twist up inside of the other  one and then just roll this back out   and this extends it out a little bit the reason  that i used this instead of the just 90 degree   piece of pipe that came through originally is i  burned some holes over here in the side of my tent   right here now with this smoke arrester at the top  or spark arrester it's not going to allow for any   of those like hot pieces to come through and light  the side of my tent on fire so it makes me feel a   little bit more safe out here it looks really cool  too i almost forgot that on my cot i also use this   air pad this air pad is made by invoker it fills  up to about two and three quarter inches wide   so it's quite thick and it helps build the  layer of warm air between you and your cot   it blows up in about three minutes let's go  ahead and get this blown up and uh on my cot   so now that i've had most of everything set up i'm  gonna go ahead and start cutting some firewood now   i did forget to freaking bring the meat out  for dinner tonight so i got my dad running   that out to me i really appreciate that uh let's  go ahead and get some firewood ready for tonight so i was looking for a nice dead  piece of wood down on the ground   already like this one i think this  would be good to get some pieces from so one thing i am noticing it is a lot warmer out  this time than it was the last time that i was   out here camping it was quite cold um when i  was at my quincy got down to negative seven   it has warmed up even since the beginning of this  video and i know it's me moving around that's kind   of helping that but the actual temperature outside  has increased as well winter is almost over guys   the rivers are still frozen where i go magnet  fish at so i haven't had any luck getting out   there on the rivers in the past couple weeks  hopefully on sunday i'll get out there though   and get a magnet in the water i've got a couple  new magnets that i've been wanting to try out so   hopefully i'll be able to get there and show you  guys some new gear i'm really excited for that   so i got all my wood harvested up ready to  go for the fire i'm gonna go ahead and get   back over to the tent and i think i'm gonna  go ahead and start getting dinner ready guys   it's a special one you guys picked it so don't  forget that stay tuned for dinner being cooked so now i'm just taking and tossing all my  wood up in my wood box i think i've got   plenty of fuel for tonight to stay nice and warm  tonight's temperature is only going to be about 32   which is pretty much double what it's been   so i'm not too sad about that i'm just gonna  park this ladder right inside the gate tonight so   let's get this fire going did just have a serious  incident so i got done landing my drone that i'd   been flying and i went to go step over to the  other side and i slipped and i fell and i landed   directly on top of my drone and the front left arm  of my drone snapped off not all the way just broke   which gives me hope um i ordered a replacement  part off of amazon um it is gonna require me to   do some soldering but it should be a nice little  video showing you guys how to fix a quadcopter   we'll be with you guys at 7 30 tonight um if you  guys are seeing this now thank you all for coming   and watching the live stream that i did tonight  um it was a really good time talking to all of   you got all my wood split up just like this so  i will be burning that tonight i will also be   burning these duraflame log chunks these things  burn really really well and i'll get everything   started with these dirt flame fire starters  so let me go ahead and get these up in here   and i know normally you should start with smaller  pieces of wood but this fire starter is awesome put that right there and on top of the fire  starter i'm going to put one of the duraflame log   pieces quickly would have used my long lighter but  it stopped working so i'll use my lions lighter   go lions and she's starting to take off now we will be cooking dinner tonight in this cast  iron pan cast iron is one of my favorite things to   cook with setting everything up the way that i did  this time with my head sleeping this way and the   door on the far side actually has given me a ton  more space i used to sleep on the opposite side   of this with that turned and i have just so much  more room now for all kinds of activities i think   it's going to be better for cooking i'm going to  be able to put my tablet up over here and have a   better view of that um yeah i think it's gonna  be great ah i'm starving guys i'm gonna go ahead   and get cooking all right you guys asked for  it and i'm a man of my word i gave you guys   what you want for it look what i got here i got  some beef stock i hope you know what this means   i'm making beef stew guys you guys wanted me to  make beef stew i do not have a dutch oven i just   have this pan so i'm not expecting the meat  to get super tender which is okay it doesn't   have to be it is what it is i'm making beef  stewing a freaking tent in the middle of winter   so let's go over a few of the ingredients that  i've got i've got this here just cube steak   and i've got it seasoned up really nice with some  garlic some thyme a little bit of salt and pepper   i am really looking forward to this um some of the  other ingredients i have i have these portobello   mushrooms now i'm a big fan of mushrooms of all  varieties they all taste great but these ones   are one of my favorites so i'm going to be using  these today in my beef stew i've also got these   baby red skin potatoes now red skin potatoes  are my favorite out of all the potatoes i just   they're so good now some salt some butter i think  these would be a nice little mix these will also   help thicken up these stew just a little bit next  part i got prepped at home because i knew that it   was going to be a pain out here i've got a  bag of chopped up shallots and carrots and   you can smell these shallots from a mile  away i had them in my trunk driving out here   and i could smell them in the cabin of my  car so i've got some shallots seasoning   you guys know i'm big on the seasonings right  here i've got some roasted garlic rosemary and   sea salt that's a really good blend i actually got  this at t.j.maxx if you're looking for seasonings   they have a pretty good pretty good seasoning  section surprisingly i've got some mustard seeds   some thyme some pepper and this right here guys  some more this is a different kind this is black   truffle flake salt so nerd the last one was just  black truffle salt i found some more flake salt   now i really like flake salt um i found some  at the mennonite store not too long ago and   it tastes really good on everything it's not  too salty but it gives a crunch to things that   normally wouldn't have a crunch like you  want crunchy soup throw a couple pieces of   this salt in your soup you'll have crunchy  soup and it'll be good like i really really   enjoy the crunch that flake salt brings to get  started i'm gonna take a little bit of canola oil   and i'm just gonna lightly put some in the  bottom there we're going to let that get   warmed up now what that is going to do is it's  going to help me get a nice base for my meat   to go ahead and start searing back up now when  you're making beef stew typically you will take   flour and you will coat your meat and flour i like  to use cornstarch it gets things way more crispy   there's no flavor to it really so i'm going to  throw in a little bit of cornstarch with my meat   now later on i'm also going to use this cornstarch  if needed to thicken up my steak if you've never   worked with cornstarch cornstarch works really  well as a thickening agent he's getting a lot   of dishes like making wings and i just like  the way it makes everything so crispy and like   so now we'll coat the meat if we get a sizzle  i'm gonna go ahead and throw the rest in   nope now if you guys haven't please hit  subscribe and get those alerts turned on i   post new content every single friday over  here on youtube and as you can hear it's   starting to cook good so i'm gonna go ahead  and throw the rest of the meat up in this pan it already smells so freaking good in  here the wood that i decided to burn i   don't know what kind it is but it smells  so good like i would smoke food with this   it smells really good now speaking of smoking  food if you guys have seen over on my instagram   i smoked my very first ever brisket this past week  smoked it for 10 and a half hours at 225 degrees   and oh my god did it turn out good if you've  never cooked a brisket low and slow is the way   to go it's worth the amount of time i let it rest  for two hours after it reached an internal temp   of 203 and oh man was it good i also made some  homemade mac and cheese that had six different   kinds of cheese and i smoked it on my smoker  it's good stuff guys i'm a big fan of cooking i don't want to add them for too long because  i don't want them to burn i also want to have   my beef broth ready to go you want to mix  it around so your shallots are translucent   since it's so hard to control  the heat using a stove like this   i'm going to go ahead and add a little bit  of brief broth in so i don't burn anything   add some more beef broth i'm gonna keep using  this beef broth throughout so in a dutch oven   typically you have a lid on it and it helps keep  all the moisture in i don't have that for this   so i'm gonna have to continue to add liquid to it  throughout which is fine um but it's definitely   going to have to happen go ahead and add  some red skinned potatoes to my stoop   now i'm throwing these things in there whole  like a stew is just meant to be a bunch of   stuff thrown together this is just easy to do out  in here i don't have to worry about prepping it   go ahead and add my mushrooms now i am gonna break  my mushrooms up a little bit and throw those in   one for the pot one for me the first seasoning  i am going to add will be some mustard seeds   now i find i'm gonna add just a decent amount  i love mustard um i find that mustard seeds   adds a nice acidic back to whatever you're  cooking with um i like to use the full seeds   i like but when you bite down on them you get like  that mustard flavor and i really really enjoy that   next ingredient will be pepper so i'm just gonna  put some fresh pepper in here our next ingredient   is gonna be thyme so we'll add in some black  truffle salt wow you guys there is so much black   truffle in here the other salt is nothing like  this next ingredient will be a can of tomato paste we're gonna start a trash bag when you guys are  making trash out camping make sure you are putting   everything in a bag you are taking it with you  you don't want to leave anything behind you want   to leave the area cleaner than it was than when  you got there that is like the golden rule behind   camping guys and i stand behind it fully i am  always taking my trash with me when i leave i   do the same thing with magnet fishing guys always  make sure you take your stuff it's like a pretty   simple thing to do wow that wind picked up and i  can actually feel a little bit of a breeze in here   um it is warm up at the top of the tent at  70 degrees so like it lets you know how warm   it is in here i might put some snow over there a  little bit later it's a windier day than normal so   the wind is definitely gonna be a playing a  factor when it comes to trying to combat this   temperature so now i'm just gonna let this  simmer for the next until the meat is a little   bit tender i'm probably gonna let it go for a  couple hours i'm just gonna let this cook and   sit down for a bit i'm gonna go ahead and clean up  a little bit and i will be back when the food is ready and i almost forgot to add in some garlic  guys i love garlic so i'll just put a big   squeeze i love it so i'm going to add a big  old glob of it then we'll mix that all up   this food literally smells so freaking good it  is almost ready i've been letting it simmer for   about two hours now um i was combating the liquid  evaporating because i don't have a dutch oven   by adding in more beef stock as i was cooking  and i found that that worked really really well   um if you guys are looking for a good  recipe you should go ahead and try this   um i'll go ahead and put all of the  ingredients down in the description for you   go ahead and pull this off let it  cool for a second before i take a bite   warm in here guys like up at the top of the  tent it is 80 degrees at the top of this tent   i'm gonna go ahead and take a bite start with a  piece of the beef now i'm really hoping the beef   got a little bit tender i don't have a dutch  oven so that was part of the the issue there now the beef didn't get completely tender and i   it would have if i continue  to cook it longer and longer   i just don't have that much time tonight and that  was fine to me it tastes really really good guys all right let's try it's a little piece of the  potato now the sauce around everything is just   it's very tangy from the tomato taste and the  mustard seeds then it's got a nice peppery taste   from the pepper and the meat i seasoned overnight  so the meat has a different taste than everything   else so like you can really taste the rosemary  and the garlic in the meat itself that is a really   nice balance when you're mixing it with something  that has a high acidity so it's good stuff so i just got done with my live stream guys  thank you again for everyone that stopped by   do you come and enjoy some time with me  in my hot tent i really appreciate that   um it is nice and toasty in here guys i  mentioned in the video how warm it was so at the top of this tent oh wow it is oh it is a  hundred degrees at the top of this tent right now   i am like starting to sweat it is hot can't stress  that enough um so what i i'm going to do now is   i'm going to kick back watch some movies relax um  eat some snacks and call it a night so my cousin's   currently building a house up here and there have  been some weird noises coming from over there all   night like metal being flat and it sounds like  people are over there but i know there's not it's   been freaking me out so there's that and then my  light's been like turning itself off and on this   whole time i feel like i'm filming one of my like  haunted house episodes that i do and that's nuts so now i'm just putting a  little bit more wood in the fire   make sure it stays warm in here it was up to 100  degrees earlier oh yeah this wood's burning nice   i've been burning a couple  different things still tonight and   they're working well um the dura flame logs  are really going to help me make it through   the night they burn very slow so um i've just  been relaxing for a bit and i've watched a movie   i think i'm going to start  another movie here in a minute and crawl back into my sleeping bag   i can't stop eating trail mix stuff's like crack  hey guys it is getting late i'm watching my second   movie now i'm about to finish up ted um it has  been a really good time out here camping today   um i found that splitting wood was a lot easier  this time now that i knew what i was doing   i uh removed a couple steps and now it's  much faster so i had a better time with that   i rearranged the way that i set up my tent i'm  sleeping on the far wall now um with my head in   a different spot and i find that there's so much  more room in here i i think i could get i think i   could sleep two people in here and all of my gear  which i didn't think was possible before so that's   a little bit of the change that i've noticed um  yeah so i'm gonna go ahead and call it a night and   if i wake up throughout the middle of the night  or something happens that's crazy i'll let you   guys know you know it's about 3 30 it's cold  i'm going to put some more wood in the fire   everything's going really well my  alarms are going off just fine warm so a couple more hours don't worry good morning  i'm just waking up um my alarms all went off   smooth last night and i was able to  wake up and put wood in the fire so   i stayed warm all night which is nice  um it's about six o'clock right now it's   not quite daytime yet so i'm just gonna  hang out and watch a movie and just relax   for a little bit and enjoy the last little bit of  time out here and get cleaned up and head out so this morning i was hearing  a couple different animals   i heard some deer walk by you can just hear their  crunch crunch crunch in the snow and then i was   hearing some grunts i don't know what animal it  might have been a deer still too but they were   loud and that was probably like 30 foot that way  so those animals close last night this morning   you could start hearing all the roosters i know  i showed you guys that last time i was out here   um they just are loud too but that was  definitely a cool way to wake up this morning   last night the stove stack did work quite well i  am very happy with the way this worked you can see   where there's a lot of black and so coming out  from the top but as you can tell on top there's   nothing that came and fell on top of this which  is great so if you haven't um with this stove i   would recommend getting an attachment that's going  to extend it up a little bit to make it longer and   getting a spark arrestor for the top so you don't  have to worry about any of the flames coming out   and burning your tent like i did in the last  episode so i definitely recommend getting these that's gonna be all for today's episode guys  if you liked today's episode hit subscribe   and get those alerts turned on i post new clips  to my youtube channel every single friday and i   post new photos over to my instagram every  single day so i'll see you guys next week you
